چکیده
The growing popularity of SMC compression moulding in the automotive industry has led to great interests process simulation model development. Existing models are commonly adapted from originally developed for short fibre composites and lacking experimental validation data. A novel material specifically flow is proposed this paper, where characterisation performed using squeeze testing method. validated through accuracy assessed by comparing predicted forces against data collected testing. new demonstrated significant improvement comparison existing commercial term force prediction, but compressive diverted away values towards end test. cavity pressure distribution also been investigated compared observations reported literature good correlation between have achieved.

Modelling of Tensile Behaviour of Sheet Moulding Compounds
An original approach to compute the longitudinal tensile break stress of multiphase composite materials with short fibers reinforcement is presented. The most obvious mechanical model which reflects a multiphase composite material is a pre-impregnated material, known as prepreg. We may include in this class of prepregs, Sheet-and Bulk Moulding Compounds. The model is seen as consisting of three...
متن کاملHemp Fibre as an Alternative to Glass Fibre in Sheet Moulding Compound: Part 1. Influence of Fibre Content and Surface Treatment on Mechanical Properties
Hemp fibre mat reinforced polyester composites were fabricated using a conventional sheet moulding compound (SMC) process. The influence of fibre and CaCO3 filler content on strength and stiffness of the HF-SMCs is reported and compared with data for chopped glass fibre reinforced sheet moulding compounds (GF-SMCs). In addition the influence of alkaline and silane treatments of the hemp fibres ...
متن کاملTribological Behaviour of Fe-Al Intermetallic Compound Coated Carbon Tool Steel
The use of Fe-Al intermetallic compound coatings has been investigated in order to improve the tribological behaviour of carbon tool steel. The coatings were formed by a pack cementation process and subsequently diffusion annealing at 900˚C in an argon controlled atmosphere. The optimum diffusion time was selected on the basis of optimum thickness and tribological behaviour. The microstructure...

متن کاملMechanical Characterization of Sheet Moulding Composites for the Automotive Industry
The mechanical properties of Sheet Moulding Composite (SMC) have been analyzed by means of static and fatigue tests in tension. SMCs show a substantial in-plane anisotropy either in terms of stiffness or strength. Fatigue data were modeled adopting a fatigue model with two parameters, represented by the cyclic number and the mean stress. The statistical implementation of such model was based on...
